A ceremony was held on Feb. 7 to unveil the “Lighthouse Factory” plaque for Mondelēz’s manufacturing plant in Suzhou, namely Mondelēz Suzhou. This is the first end-to-end lighthouse factory in the global biscuit & snack industry. At present, Suzhou Industrial Park (SIP) has 3 lighthouse factories and the other two enterprises on the list are Johnson & Johnson (Medical) Suzhou Co., Ltd and Bosch Automotive Products (Suzhou) Co., Ltd. The number of lighthouse factories in SIP accounts for a half and one third of the total number in Suzhou City and in Jiangsu Province respectively.
The Global Lighthouse Network of advanced manufacturers is a project launched by the World Economic Forum (WEF) in collaboration with McKinsey & Company in 2018. The enterprises on the list represent the highest level of intelligent manufacturing and digitalization in the global manufacturing industry today. They serve as models of adoption and integration of the cutting-edge technologies of the Fourth Industrial Revolution as well as beacons of light that can guide companies in the digital transformation of the global manufacturing industry. There are only 132 factories in the world named as “Lighthouse” facilities. And Mondelēz Suzhou was the only factory in Jiangsu Province selected into the list this January.
Established in 1995, Mondelēz Suzhou has 13 fully automated production lines with an annual capacity of over 200,000 tons.
